No cloud blog would be complete without reference to the latest Snowden leaks. You can read about them here in a great piece from The Guardian. The short version is that the NSA has pwned Google and Yahoo, Most likely using a low-level network attack on their fiber optic networks. That is not surprising, given how they did the same thing to AT&T switching rooms a few years ago.
There is no need to go into great detail here; it’s all over the Internet.
The good news is that this means very little. 10 years ago, if the NSA wanted onto your network, they hacked your firewall, the same thing cybercriminals did. Now, they hack the cloud…the same things cybercrimals do.
However, this has created the most amazing opportunity for irony in all of 2013:
.Speaking at a tech conference in September, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg said the government had done a “bad job” of balancing people’s privacy. “Frankly, I think the government blew it,” he said.
Yes, that’s right. The founder of Facebook just accused the government of not respecting people’s privacy. Lol.
